May Bank Holiday weekend found us at Santa Pod Raceway in deepest Northants - despite the dire weather forecast for the weekend, the sun held out on Saturday and crowds gathered with the strip fully occupied with the RWYB in action

At the Monster Truck Nationals on the other side of the bank, Swamp Thing, Crusher , Big Pete and the others made short work of assorted wrecked cars and showed how to reduce a caravan to matchwood in a few seconds - and demonstrated that with the help of 1700hp or so even some chunky Goodyear Terragrips can be made to do a respectable burnout... Finally they turned their attention to an old ex-military bus which turned out to be tougher than it looked. There were some crowd-thrilling close calls but with trucks skillfuly driven the bus soon became worse for wear!

The Swamp Thing literally flew over the wreckage, and despite some battle damage to the suspension managed to persist to the very end!

Sunday was predicted to be dismal weather-wise, with low temperatures and torrential rain forecast for most of the day. Sounds typical for a British Summer event, but fortunately those hardened campaigners who stuck around for the chance of a race and show and shine were rewarded by the overnight rain drying up and the track back in action by mid-morning. Sadly the unpromising weather put off many Classic Car owners from venturing out to a windswept airfield, so the Show & Shine area was a little sparsely populated.

Darren Scanell's very clean Escort Mk 1 - a 138mph and sub 11 second quarter mile won him a trophy .
Nevertheless some great cars did make the effort - and quite a few ended up making some respectable runs down the strip! The unseasonably cold temperatures probably helped with some improved ET's (the Fireforce Jet Car managed over 268mph and sub-6 seconds on its final run of the weekend) but the rain held off for the rest of the day.

Jeff Thurston's very rapid 67 Mustang
Those who stuck around for the rest of the afternoon were rewarded with the RWYB shootout finals and some awesome runs and the sun finally put in an appearance.
Congratulations to all the trophy winners in the Show & Shine including one of our customers - Pete Dobson with his awesome 1960 Chevy and to the RWYB Shootout winners of the musclecargarage.co.uk vouchers.
