Diesel Accessories

As well as performance exhausts for your diesel vehicle we can also provide diesel specific catalysers, DPF-Delete, EGR Delete, Catalyser Delete (where permitted by current legislation) and other related accessories such as performance air filters and tonneau covers - these products will improve the efficiency and fuel economy of your vehicle - and especially with the escalating price of fuel, they will pay for themselves in a short space of time!

DPF-R Particulate Filter Emulator Kits

DPF-R Module

We are official dealers for the DPF-R system from GearboxZ.

What is a DPF?

A DPF is a Diesel Particulate Filter. These are found installed by the factory on 2007 and newer US diesel powered trucks such as the Dodge Ram (Cummins) and Ford SuperDuty Pickups (Powerstroke). They are also increasingly being used on diesel cars and vans here in Europe.

The DPF itself is a new type of emissions filter in line in the exhaust that collects the PM (Particulate Matter - in other words soot/black smoke) . The PM quickly clogs the DPF so in order to clean the DPF the truck will drop raw diesel into the exhaust to burn the PM out of the DPF. This burn is called “re-gen”. Re-gen will occur after about 100 - 600 miles of driving, and will last for 10 - 40 minutes. Not all of the PM can burn so the DPF will completely close off /clog up over time, which causes re-gen to happen more frequently. Eventually the DPF has to be removed and cleaned with specialist equipment and chemicals or replaced.

What is a DPF-R and what does it do?
The DPF-R is a plug-in electronic module that eliminates DPF re-gen. The DPF-R system has been developed in USA by GearboxZ for late model 2007-2010 Ford and Dodge Pickup trucks. Because it stops the re-gen process the DPF will need to be removed from the exhaust system and a suitable replacement pipe section installed

The DPF-R will remove the following intermittent symptoms of re-gen:

* -idle speeds reaching 1100 - 1200 rpm
* -increase in white smoke
* -limited HP
* -lower engine responsiveness
* -unusual exhaust smells
* -engine/exhaust flutter on deceleration or shutdown

Is DPF-R bad for the environment?
No. The DPF causes:

* -wasted fossil fuels
* -lower fuel economy
* -less power
* -increased green house gasses (nitrous oxide and carbon monoxide)

Also your vehicle will not pass emissions during the DPF re-gen process!

The DPF and associated Catalyser and related components are heavily constructed, their combined weight is as much as an adult passenger, reducing the fuel economy and load carrying capacity of the vehicle!

So why do we have the DPF?
The DPF reduces PM (particulate matter), the “visual” black smoke characteristic of diesel engines. This is not green house gas, it is fine dust/soot that settles to the ground. Whilst reducing any such pollutants is of course environmentally responsible and desireable, the DPF in its current form is an imperfect solution to this problem, as it decreases fuel economy and increases greenhouse gas emissions - eg a customer with a Dodge Ram - Cummins turbodiesel report that DPF regen causes fuel mileage to literally halve every time a regen occurs - (from average of 23 down to 12mpg).

Is the DPF-R legal?
In the USA the DPF-R is legal for performance/racing and off road applications. DPF-R is also legal for testing and maintenance purposes. Vehicles with a DPF-R may not pass emissions inspections in some US states. End user is responsible to check local and state emissions laws in their area, and comply with those laws.
